Quick and easy meals

Whether you want a quick fix after a long day, or you’re a student a uni and simply cba to cook something fancy, here’s my top things to cook:Spaghetti-Bolognese

  1. PASTA (so cliche) – just boil some water, add pasta, leave for 10 mins, drain the water out, add a pot of sauce, heat, and you’re good to go. If you want to be a bit more adventurous, maybe chop some onion or garlic and add it to the sauce, and stick some garlic bread in the oven for 15 mins.
  2. OMELETTE – depending how much you like to eat depends on how many eggs you use. I use about 5 eggs, whisk them and then chop some ham or chicken, or any other food you have lying around that needs using, add it to the eggs. Season how you like, I generally add a bit of salt and pepper. Now cook, preferably on a non-stick pan.
  3. SPAG BOL – boil water, add spaghetti, cook mince in a different pan, add a sauce with the mince, and serve together. This is only quick if you’ve already defrosted the mince.
  4. Anything pre-cooked from the freezer – burgers, pizza, sausages etc. can all be cooked from frozen and don’t take long to cook.

You can also cheat by using microwave meals when you don’t have to prepare anything, except your belly.

Freshers flu is a myth

This is only my opinion from what I’ve experienced and seen. Out of everybody at uni that I know, only one person got ill with the ‘freshers flu’. Personally I think it was just a coincidence that he got some sort of cold at the same time as starting uni.

If you keep clean, wash your hands regularly and eat properly there’s no chance of getting ‘freshers flu’. If the weather is bad, for example, if you have wet hair and you’re out in the cold for a few hours, then yes, you are more than likely to get ill. But there’s no point in blaming it on the supposed ‘freshers flu‘.

HOWEVER my uni halls are generally quite clean as they’re cleaned for us students daily, and I share a shower with only three other people. I believe other uni’s are quite different so germs are more likely to spread. So it is quite likely for ‘freshers flu’ to exist. Just not at my uni. As far as I’m aware.

Why uni?

“Why are you here?” was the first question that I was asked by my English tutor. It was my first lecture at university and I was quite surprised when she asked this. I thought about it, and I said because I’ve worked hard to get here. I’ve worked my butt off to get here because uni is not cheap. In fact, I worked for the entire summer so I could fulfil my dream going to uni. It certainly paid off. Well, technically I paid it off, but you get my drift.

After a lot of thought, there are many reasons why I’m here:

  • to learn
  • have fun
  • I like a challenge
  • experience
  • friends

Here’s a link to another blog that puts, why you should go to uni, into perspective for you: Ten reasons to go to university

Too many people are worried about uni debt and that’s why they put it off altogether. If you want something, then work for it. If you work hard enough you’ll eventually get there. You decide…

The journey begins

Here goes everything…

It’s tough being a teen/young adult. I want to do well in school, I want a social life, I want money, I want to keep fit and healthy, I want… so much. Don’t you?

Trying to keep everything balanced seems impossible nowadays. That’s why we have to prioritise. To school or college that means putting your education first. To parents that may mean doing your chores first. What I really want is a social life first but we all know that can’t happen in this moment of time.

I’m finding, in my second week of Uni, things run quite a bit different here. It doesn’t mean you get less work or it’s not as important…hell to the no. BUT it does mean that your tutors/lecturers take into consideration what life is like. You’re busy, stressed, running in circles (not literally). But it also means your social life basically is doing assignments and attending lectures. To me, I find that fun…but I can be a boring old fart.

For me, it’s the freedom that I love. Living away from home, waking up when you want, eating what you want. Right now I’m digging into a pack of cookies but who’s judging? NOT MY MUM.
